PAL KOZHAKATAI PAYASAM

ITEMS REQUIRED:

Rice flour                             1 cup

Salt                                         small pinch

Full fat milk                       1 cup

Sugar                                     1 ¼ cup

Moong dal                           ¾ cup

Elachi                                    5

Dry ginger powder         1 spoon

Scrapped coconut            ¼ cup

Ghee                                      1 spoon

METHOD:

  • Dry fry rice flour to golden.

  • Boil water along with a small pinch of salt,  in a kadai, add fried rice flour little by little stirring with another hand continuously till a firm(but not dry) dough is formed.

  • Allow to warm up.

  • Once it is warm, make small balls as shown in pic and steam in idly plate just similar to steaming idlies.

  • Once done, take out and keep aside.

  • Dry fry moong dal slightly and cook well.

  • Transfer milk to a cooker or thick bottomed vessel and allow to boil.

  • Add cooked dal and mix well.    

  • Add steamed balls to boiling contents.

  • Once it is boiled well together, add sugar, elachi and dry ginger powder.

  • In one spoon ghee, fry scrapped coconut and transfer to boiling contents.

  • Pal kozhakatai payasam is ready.

  • It can be served hot or cold according to your taste.
