It is an excellent semi solid gravy side dish made with potato and green peas. It goes well with roti and hot white rice. Though it is a popular item and well known to everyone, I would like to share my recipe(which I learnt from website), believe me, it tasted awesome.
Potato 2 big
Green peas ¾ cup (I used fresh, you can use frozen also)
Almond powder 1 tbsp (powder 9 to 10 almonds)
Jeera ½ spoon
Hing ¼ spoon
Red chilli powder ½ spoon
Turmeric powder ¼ spoon
Garam masala powder ½ spoon
Cooking oil 3 tbsp
Salt as required
Coriander leaves as you wish
To make paste:
Ginger 1 inch piece
Garlic 3 pods
Make a paste with items mentioned under “to make paste”.
Wash and cook the potatoes.
Peel off skin and cut into cubes.
Heat oil in a small cooker, add jeera.
Add the paste.
Sauté for a minute and add almond powder.
Mix well till oil releases.
Add hing, red chilli powder and turmeric powder.
Mix well for a minute and add potatoes, peas, salt and required water.
Mix well and pressure cook for 4 whistles.
Once you are able to open the cooker, mix well, add garam masala powder and mix well.
Switch of after couple of minutes.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Excellent and tasty aloo matar is ready.
