AVAL (POHA) UPMA

ITEMS REQUIRED:

Aval                                       1 cup

Onion                                   2

Green chilly                      2

Ginger                                  small piece

Curry leaf                           1 strip

Coriander leaf                 as required

Mustard                               ½ spoon

Jeera                                     1 spoon

Hing                                       liberal pinch

Turmeric powder           small pinch

Lemon                                  1 (small)

Scrapped coconut         ¼ cup

Peanuts                               2 tbsp

Cooking oil                        3 tbsp

METHOD:

  • Wash and soak aval for 5 to 10 minutes depending on the quality of aval.
  • Chop onion, ginger, green chilly and coriander leaves finely.
  • Heat oil in kadai, add mustard, jeera, hing, curry leaves, onion, ginger and green chillies.
  • Add salt and turmeric powder and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes till onions are cooked and become soft.
  • Drain water completely from aval,  transfer to kadai and mix well.
  • Add 1/2 spoon of chilly powder in case you want it to be spicy.
  • Add peanuts (as half broken or coarse grind in mixie)
  • Switch off burner once fully mixed well and completely done.
  • Add scrapped coconut, lemon extract and coriander leaves.
  • Mix well and serve.
