RED BELL PEPPER CHUTNEY

This chutney, apart from excellent taste has two main attractions:

ITEMS REQUIRED:

Red bell pepper                2

Onion                                    2-big

Tomato                                 3

Urad dal                               3 spoons

Chana dal                            4 spoons

Curry leaf                            handful

Ginger                                   big piece

Green chilly                        3 – big

Coriander leaf                   as you wish

Hing                                       liberal pinch

Tamarind paste                ½ spoon

Salt                                         as required

METHOD:

  • Wash and chop onions, green chilies, ginger, bell peppers and tomatoes.

  • Wash and chop coriander leaves roughly.

  • Heat a heavy bottomed pan, add the dals and start frying.

  • When half done, add curry leaves and continue frying till dals turn golden.

  • Add onions, followed by green chilies & ginger and sauté till onions turn transparent.

  • Add bell peppers, mix well and sauté for 2 minutes.

  • Add tomatoes and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes till all items are mixed and cooked well.

  • Now add coriander leaves, give a mix and switch off flame.

  • Add salt, hing and tamarind paste(this can be added while blending also).

  • Close with lid and allow to warm up.

  • Blend into a fine paste and tasty red bell pepper chutney is ready.
