Oats                                                       1 cup

Rava                                                      ½ cup

Onion                                                    2

Green chilly                                       5

Curry leaf                                            1 strip

Ginger                                                  small piece

salt                                                         as required

Mustard, urad dal, cooking oil    for tempering

Heat kadai, dry fry rava to golden colour , transfer to  a plate.  Dry fry oats , sauté only few times , transfer to another plate.  Cut onions, green chillies and ginger.

Heat oil in kadai, add tempering items, then onion, ginger, green chillies and curry leaves , sauté till it is transparent.  Add required water (oats requires less water compared to rava), add salt and close with lid, keep flame in medium.  Once water starts boiling , add rava first, once it is half cooked, add oats and keep stirring till it is completely cooked and water is drained.  Switch off burner and eat hot.

I have used cashews to enhance the look and taste, which is purely optional.

Tomato-coconut chutney is a good side dish for this ( posted separately).
